Progenoid Glands

Warning: This definition may contain spoilers from any number of Games Workshop novels or source books.

Progenoid Glands: The progenoid glands are the most basic and most important components of the Space Marines many and varied bio-implants. The glands, located in the neck and chest, serve to collect and store the geneseed itself. Through the medium of the progenoids, Chapter Apothecaries can gather the geneseed of the fallen and re-implant it into fresh recruits.

The glands mature at different points - the neck gland after 5 years, the chest after 10. Once matured, the glands can be removed; although normal practice is to do so only after a Marine falls in battle.
The Progenoid Glands are implanted second-to-last; the final internal implant before the Black Carapace.
