Prospero

Prospero: Prospero was the homeworld of the Thousand Sons Space Marine Legion. After the Scattering, the infant Magnus the Red was found on the surface of Prospero by a commune of psykers who had made their home on the planet. The commune were a group of exiles, fleeing persecution for their powers and mutations. Prospero had been selected by them for its isolated position; poor natural resources and harsh environmental conditions made it an unlikely selection for a colony-world, despite its relative proximity to Terra.

During the Great Crusade, Prospero was transformed into a world of pyramids and libraries; where Thousands Sons Marines and the mostly psychic population studied ancient tomes and dark practices. The capital, Tzica, became filled with gold and marble temples and pyramids, and was known as the 'City of Light'. These esoteric studies were ultimately to be the Legions' downfall, for in their pursuit of knowledge they negelected the material defences of their world. Although many great weapons platforms orbited Prospero, and its surface was studded with silos and defence laser turrets, these fell into disrepair and went unmanned as they plumbed the depths of their libraries and performed strange rituals.

The Space Wolves were dispatched to destroy the Thousand Sons, and found the planet virtually undefended. In the final battle waged between Magnus and Leman Russ, Magnus moved the entire capital city into the Warp and thence to the Eye of Terror.

Prospero was declared 'exterminatus' although that particular method of destruction was not used upon it.

Prospero is located in the eastern reaches of the Segmentum Solar, not far from the deathworld Catachan.

Real-World Reference: Prospero was the name of the rightful Duke of Milan, also a sorceror, marooned on an island with his daughter in Shakespeare's The Tempest.

Prospero is also the name of one of Uranus' moons
